History

Raudondvaris manor is the monument of the beginning of the 17th century of Renaissance architecture in Lithuania.
Manor overlooks on the right bank of the upper terrace of the river Nevezis near the confluence of the Nemunas and Nevėžis, 9 km. from Kaunas Jurbarkas direction. The main building of the Raudondvaris ensemble is the castle-palace with a tower. It was built in the second half of the 17th century. The estate, together with 3.8 hectares of park and two Oficina buildings, a greenhouse, stables and an ice-house, consists a single ensemble.
Historians’ claim that the castle had been started building by Kaunas chamberlain, Wojciech Dzewaltowski in the second half of the sixteenth century. Later the castle estate was owned by a number of prominent Lithuanian nobility: Jan Eustachy Kossakowski, Janusz Radziwiłła, Jan Karol Worłowski, Anton, Józef, Henryk, Kazimierz Zabiełła, Michał, Benedykt Emanuel i Benedykt Henryk Tyszkiewicz counts.
In the remands of the estate of the architectural ensemble the brightest steps is of the lord Count Tyszkiewicz family activity traces. After the 1831 fire wooden castle building was burned and Count Emmanuel Benedict Tyszkiewicz built a new brick mansion. It is known that during this period there were working well-known architects: Lithuanian Margevičius John, Jacob Wöhler of Prussia and the Italian Laurus Caesar Anikini.
Managing Tyszkiewicz luxurious castle became the residence of the counts, which were generated huge paintings, art works, rare books and exotic plant and animal collections.
Now the main castle manor house, stables, ice house and conservatory restored and will soon be adapted for cultural tourism.
Ice-house was opened in autumn 2011. The Kaunas region tourism information center began their activities here.
The castle will be opened on June 2012 and there will be the Palace of Culture and Arts, the composer Juozas Naujalis Museum, the marriage hall, conference halls, hotel and banquet halls in the cellars.
Greenhouse will open its doors in 2012, a restaurant with banquet halls. Here grows the oldest and thickest Lithuania palm.
On June of 2013, will be opened the Arts Incubator in the reconstructed stables, where will be about 500 seats mobile theater and concert hall, photography, art galleries and exhibition halls, creative developers and residential premises of the resident.
On the period of 2012 spring - summer, the park will restore the greenery and flowers, where the main place will take place the  old rose varieties after a long time  returned to the estate.
Traveler, Ferdynand Nowakovski in 1857 stated that "whoever goes through Kaunas, do not forget to visit Raudondvaris, because here everyone is being welcome by swing gate" - as encoded future generations to preserve and foster communication and hospitality assets.
Raudondvaris manor, continuing the centuries-old tradition, kindly invited to visit here all the travelers who are interested in Lithuanian culture and values.
