Educational programme "Art Directions"

Educational programme “Art Directions”

This educational programme is aimed at upper secondary school students. Participants will not only learn more about the different art movements, but also have the opportunity to try them out for themselves. The programme provides a concise and accessible overview of the different contemporary art movements: pop art, performance art, neo-expressionism, conceptual art, minimalism, photorealism and postmodernism. We will illustrate various examples of artworks using slides shown during the session. Participants will be able to use a variety of tools and techniques to create their own artwork inspired by one of the art movements discussed, and then come up with a name for it. We will also invite everyone to join in a general discussion about curious situations that have happened in the art world, such as the time when a cleaner at the Dortmund Museum, thinking she was doing her job, scrubbed an installation by the artist M. Kippenberger. We will explore Cattelan’s banana taped to the wall and many other misunderstandings in contemporary art. We will also not forget the works of contemporary Lithuanian artists, delving into their aesthetic concept and their ongoing social impact. This educational programme encourages young people to take an interest in contemporary art, to broaden their artistic perception and to introduce them to the creative process. It develops a sense of aesthetics and critical thinking through practical activities and discussions.
