On 7 December Raudondvaris Manor received an award for the successful implementation of the project “Historical Road: Raudondvaris-Bauska” at the Interreg Forum of the European Regional Development Fund in Vilnius Town Hall. The video presentation prepared by the Raudondvaris Manor team was also among the top three.
The participants discussed the results of the Interreg Latvia-Lithuania 2014-2020 financial period, the best projects were awarded and new opportunities were discussed.
The EU funded programme involved Latvia’s Kurzeme, Zemgale and Latgale regions, as well as Klaipėda, Telšiai, Šiauliai, Panevėžys, Utena and Kaunas counties.
Arnoldas Abramavičius, Deputy Minister of the Interior of The Republic of Lithuania, argued that it is important to observe the neighbours, learn from their experience and organise various activities together, as it promotes tourism and entrepreneurship, helps to improve the quality of life, and increases social inclusion.
Receiving the award, Raudondvaris Manor director S. Navickienė said that during the project there had been an opportunity to get to know our Latvian neighbours better and to do some nice things together. Artists and craftsmen from both countries drew inspiration from Baltic mythology and the history of Raudondvaris and Bauska castles.
The goal of the project was to increase the number of tourists coming to the Kaunas district and the Bauska region in the autumn and winter seasons by creating artistic, educational and sports activities aimed at attracting visitors with different interests, history and heritage lovers. An impressive series of educational events “Baltic Treasures” was organised with partners from the Bauska Castle Museum, while “Castle Day” presentations of old crafts, and concerts of medieval and Renaissance music attracted many tourists.
“Not only did project leave great impressions, but also created spaces for entertainment and cultural tourism. The skating rink at Raudondvaris Manor, which was installed during the project, has become a favourite among the people of our region, and we even managed to organise a Bavarian curling competition on the ice,” smiled S. Navickienė.
