5 December (Thursday), 7 pm. Free performance – ethnomystery NINEHORN DEER!
This is an ancient Lithuanian mythological creature that carries the celestial bodies of the Moon and the Sun on its horns. It is said that the white reindeer runs away at the solstice and comes back at Christmas. In the Lithuanian folk calendar, Advent is a time of calm, a time of spiritual cleansing, the end of farm work, and a period of pre-Christmas concentration and preparation for Christmas. The mystery “Ninehorn Deer” dramatises Lithuanian folk traditions, customs, rites and rituals of Advent.
🔸 Performed by the folklore ensemble “Viešia” (director Jolanta Balnytė) of the Folklore Hall of the Neveroniai of Leisure Hall of the Culture Centre of Ramučiai district of Kaunas.
