Live performance of Vytautas Kernagis’ songs – Jokūbas Bareikis invites to concerts to honor the stage legend.
Maestro Vytautas Kernagis – a legend of the Lithuanian music world, always warmly remembered. Actor and musician Jokūbas Bareikis invites you to the concert “Legend. Vytautas Kernagis. Stories and Songs” to listen to his most beautiful songs and stories about the creator’s life.
The musician says that on stage, he will convey Vytautas Kernagis’ songs and stories as a beautiful musical memory. “It would be the greatest mistake to try to replicate what is irreplaceable. Vytautas Kernagis’ creative legacy was exceptional. He gave so much that it will suffice for generations to come. It should continue to resonate,” says J. Bareikis.
Like other representatives of his generation, Jokūbas Bareikis grew up with Vytautas Kernagis’ music. At that time, it not only shaped his musical taste but also influenced his outlook on life.
“I grew up with this music; it partly shaped me, influenced our whole generation; it was something magnificent, a phenomenon that brought people together. For a long time I had the idea to dedicate a concert to Maestro’s work. I reached out to his family, received their approval, and thus, this concert slowly came to life. It’s exciting to prepare for it, but it’s also a great responsibility. I want to do everything in a way that honors the name of Vytautas Kernagis,” says J. Bareikis.
During the concert, the audience will hear the most beautiful songs of the maestro: “When Cherries Ripen in Suvalkija,” “White Bird,” “Purple Evening,” “Winter in Summer,” and others. J. Bareikis will also speak about Vytautas Kernagis’ musical journey, which will allow for a closer look at his exceptional personality. According to J. Bareikis, only a few realize that Vytautas Kernagis was truly the original influencer.
Every stylish young man nowadays wears a combination of tailored trousers and athletic shoes. But do you remember who was the first influencer to introduce this combination onto the Lithuanian music scene? It’s fair to say that the cabaret-style Vytautas Kernagis pioneered the duo of a suit and sports shoes, as he used to step onto the stage wearing such attire long before it became a style statement. This wasn’t just a fashion idea; it was one of many ways the maestro rebelled against the system and encouraged people to think more freely.
This isn’t the first educational music show by J. Bareikis, inviting people to remember the creations and lives of music legends. Previously, he achieved great success with concerts dedicated to The Beatles and John Lennon, held together with opera soloist Rafailas Karpis.
This time on stage, Jokūbas Bareikis will be accompanied on the keyboards by Vytis Smolskas, with supporting vocalists Diana Gružauskaitė and Justa Rubežiūtė.
